April Flowers...

So first off, we now have 6 vehicles in our Junkin Bunch driveway, with the latest one being the 2010 Hyundai Genesis that Davis and I have been watching on a lot near his gym.   The price finally came down to something that we could handle, and we made and offer, and it was accepted.   The car is perfect, and while old with some high mileage, it is a luxury vehicle with all the bells and whistles of its time.   We do have one issue that we are trying to fix related to the radio.   It has a high pitched noise that can be heard when the radio is on...well, it can be heard by all except me and the older gentleman that sold us the car.   I kept listening for it myself, and finally told Davis, "I think I hear it".   He quickly replied, "Dad, the radio is not even on right now".   Oh well.

Ruby was on her bicycle with Taylor Grace, and after a bad spill coming down a hill going to the straight road, Ruby let us know that she had "saved Taylor Grace' life".   Ruby was a little ahead and heard her friends screams from behind after a crash.   Ruby, always prepared, had her first aid kit in her back pack with her, and cleaned up the blood and got bandages on all the wounds.   I told Ruby that she did good, but I don't think Taylor Grace was going to die.   "Well, she does not wear a helmet, and I told her that if she wants to ride with me on the roads, she will have to wear a helmet".   So maybe she did save her life.

Davis got his first opportunity to perform some welding at CTEC, and helping to make a Flower Stand for Mr. Irwin's girlfriend.   During that weld, he learned an important lesson on using shielding for the sparks.   In the middle of a weld, he felt a burn on his foot, and screamed when he knew he had been burned.   He looked down at his shoe and said Oh No, I have a hole in my shoe, then Oh No, I have a hole in my sock, then Ouch, that is where it burned my foot.   The pictures at the very bottom show he finally started using some shielding blankets over his tennis shoes.

And at home, right as I was trying to leave for an errand, I realized that I did not have my wallet.   It was not where I always place it in my drawer.   But I am horrible at misplacing things, usually laying items in the most random of all places thinking I will remember, then not remembering about 30 seconds later.   After searching the car and the drawer about 3 times each, I was not panicky, because I was positive it was at the house, but frustrated because I could not go on my errand anymore, just had to look around for my wallet.   Both Magan and Ruby started to help me look all over the house, when I finally felt my pocket and realized that my wallet was already there.   Magan asked me to get to my errand quickly before she punched me.

And while my body quickly started to deteriorate when I hit 40, I had to wait till 45 to check on some internal issues so insurance would cover me.   So my personal doctor referred me to my first colonoscopy.   It is quite strange, as I did not meet with any doctor, just set up an appointment, then started the horrible prep period three days prior.   I will spare the details of this prep process, and skip to the morning of the procedure.   Where I was asked for the first time in my life "What color is your stool"?  then pointed to a color that I would have not should be the answer to that question.   I was rolled in my bed back to the operation room, where I met the doctor for the first time, no hand shakes here.   And then the anesthesiologist took over telling me that he was putting some medicine...and I was out, I don't think I even got to the countdown.   I woke up a little giggly and wanting a sprite.   I don't even know why sprite was my choice, as it is enjoyable, but not on my list of favorites.   But I REALLY liked this sprite, and still remember the nurse helping me into the van, and Magan asked "How was it", to which I replied with a loud burp in response...then another giggle.   The nurse seem disgusted and left me to Magan, who told me directly to ChickFilA, where I had been craving both a chicken egg and cheese biscuit and a chicken burrito.    Trying to get into the restaurant was difficult because magan had to help me not jsut walk right in front of a car going thru the drive thru, then I panicked...I had forgotten my sprite with straw in it in the van.   So we went back to the van, and I could not get the handle to open.   Magan finally was able to get me to stop opening the door and let her try, and like magic it opened right up.   In the restaurant, I got both of my cravings and ate every bite.   I had to ask Magan to pray for our meal, because I was still a little giggly and did not know what I would say...besides thanks for that Sprite.   Then we finally left, and Magan got me to leave the giant stuffed cow in the lobby.   I think I crashed for the rest of that night.   If you are wondering, my colon looked awesome on this first visit, so my next trip will be at 55.   And I have also started drinking Sprite a lot more recently.

Davis keeps Winning...

Davis is just taking his win streak into April racking up some honors at school with highest average in Forensic Science and English classes.   At the Shelby County Student of the Year nominee luncheon, he was seated at a table with Magan, the principal of CTEC, his advisor at CTEC, and the shelby county superintendent.   After announcing the CTEC scholarship awards to two other people, Davis and Magan were disappointed that he did not win, but still happy to be nominated.   Then they named the entire Shelby County awards, and surprising both of them, he won!

Magan's facebook words: "He WON! Davis got Shelby County Student of the Year! We were honored just to be there and shocked when he won, Dr Epps said we looked like Beyoncé when she won. Complete shock. We love our community and all the wonderful educators and administrators who work with these kids tirelessly and show them love all along the way."

He was also awarded with highest average in CTEC automotive classes, and received his CTEC honors cords, then returned the award the next night by giving his CTEC teach, Mr. Irwin, his Golden Apple award (Chelsea students with a GPA >4.0 are all given a Golden apple to provide to a teacher that had a large impact on their school career)

Davis' Golden apple speech..."I would like to give my golden apple to the funniest and best teacher i’ve had Mr.Irwin. For those who don’t know Mr.Irwin teaches the automotive technology class at the career technical education center.  Mr.Irwin your class has been My favorite class that I have ever taken. Working on cars and learning lessons the hard way Is fun and all but without the daily “what’s up homie” as I walk into the shop or one of the many events and field trips that you plan for us, It wouldn’t be the same. I will forever be grateful for all the opportunities, skills and jokes that you shared with me and i can’t wait to use them in the next stage of life. I couldn’t think of anything else to end on except saying thank you homie!"

Davis also found out that he had won a scholarship from the Masonic Lodge in Columbiana also! Perhaps it helps that Mr. Irwin is a member. And I will leave the awards here for this month, as I write in the future, and I will just say May looks pretty good also. I was planning to be in Georgia during May, and told Davis that he needed to pick me some numbers for lotto. At this point, I don't think it would even be considered gambling, just going to pick up a check that he had already won.
