Davis was elected into the Order of the Arrow for his scouting troop. This is like the honor society within Boy Scouts, and the boys are elected by the members of their own troop, based on character and participation in the troop activities. While he did not have the bare chested indian tapping ceremony at Summer Camp (as in 2021, anything associated with native americans may be considered offensive), that was super OK with Davis. Haha, Sam and I still laugh about it when he was tapped in 3 years back. I have heard some details of the "Ordeal" that allows them entry into the OA brotherhood, but it is a process that other young grandkid scouters may read one day, so I will just let them know Davis said it was very tough. He made it through the weekend, but it was a hard weekend of service. And thankful for our scouting friends able to take him and bring him home from camp Comer.
What is the OA? For over 100 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others.
