I have never been a big fan of snow, but this one almost pulled me in. It was a great day at the end of the week where the kids had just returned to school and I had just return to work, and no one was really excited about either one. So while it was still a work day for me, it was nice to have the kids home from school. Actually, I made it home just in time, as I had been in Georgia since Monday, and left Thursday night to get home. One day later, and I would have been trapped in Georgia till Sunday.
Davis first one up and out in the snow...also first one done with it. But I laughed to see him out sledding down in the back yard. He went to tell Ruby, but she was not ready for the cold just yet, and stayed in bed. I was at my desk working when I heard crashing against the window in the kitchen. And again, crash, and again, crash. Finally I ran out on the porch to see Davis throwing snowballs at the window yelling "Hey Mom". "What are you doing? She is still asleep". So apparently, he saw a bunch of bananas on the island in the kitchen and it looked to him like Magan leaning over at the island. We both had a good laugh about him thinking his mommas hair was a bunch of bananas.
So finally the girls got up and outside to play in the snow. Davis went back to bed. The girls were excited to see how to make a snowman, and we immediately began putting one together. Once he was all in three big balls with some rose bush thorny arms, Ruby got a big grin and looked up at me in complete seriousness, "Hey Dad, do you have any coal?" What in the world, like I was just waiting for this moment where the snowman needed some eyes and a nose with coal in my pocket. Me and Belle just laughed at that. We also found out that Belle had no skills at all throwing snowballs, and everyone was safe in a battle against her.
Who was so proud on this day? Magan. Because the sled she bought probably 10 years ago that had been sitting in our garage since the last big snow day FINALLY was able to be used. That was her justification after me fussing that we would never use it, or not use it enough to justify a $50 sled. Maybe it was not that much, I don't remember, she probably does...but it does not matter, we used it on this day, and she was right, we did need it.
Everyone had a run on the slide, but I don't think anyone beat my trip down thru the yard and halfway thru the Conways yard. And then I tried again, this time not going far enough right, and going straight into the tree branches. Luckily I knew the metal utilities pole was close, so I pulled up the sled just in time to probably save my collarbone from being broken. And cracked the sled slamming into that box. Somewhere in the multiverse, I am still healing from a very bad break, but in this world I am realizing that I am making too many dumb decisions lately and hoping that 50 may be a reality one day.
We got some pictures sent to us from Tuscaloosa where Sam, Brendan, and Joe made their own snowman. I remembered a dumb decision I once made to travel in the snow back to cullman from college for a girl...and quickly told sam not to make that same mistake. He promised he would not travel, which he kept, but apparently the promise was only for one day. Still not a fan, but I will admit this snow day with my buds was a really good day.
