Our next day in Nashville began getting to sleep late and go into the Soundwaves water park connected to the hotel at 10AM. With Magan's finger wrap, she was hesitant to do any of the water activities, but she quickly found an amazing area to rest and lookout on the whole area. And her little hidden spot was in the all adults area, so it was also rather quiet, allowing her to rest and I think work on her 1 second a day app for 2024.
We began by riding the 5 person family ride together a couple of times, then split up with me hanging out with Ruby, Sam going with Belle, and Davis getting in line for the wave machine. The wave machine was pretty popular all day, so Davis was gone for about 45 minutes in that line, but I saw later he got to use the surfboard and did really good.
The rest of us tried the other non-family slides, where you had two you just went down on your back, one that was all dark, and the other that allowed some light in. Then two tube slides, a double slide one that was fast and pretty fun, but a single slide one with a large drop into what we all call the "toilet bowl" that you go around and around until you "flush" out the middle down to the end of the slide. Coming out of the toilet bowl backwards was not fun for me as I quickly flipped backwards when I hit the pool at the end. Davis and Belle were both proud of making it three times around the "toilet bowl" before dropping out.
What did Ruby like best? Well, besides the "toilet bowl" which was number one (not number two) for all...she loved the Lazy River, and this park had two of them. I can't remember how many times we went around and around that river. Fortunately, we were able to all gather together for lunch in the middle of the day, which was amazingly good for a water park restaurant. Sam and Davis left me and the girls at the water park, Sam going to probably chat with Noel, and Davis probably to sleep...even tho I think they actually both went to the gym for a little bit.
The girls seemed content together in the lazy river, and the wave machine line was relatively small, so I jumped in for my chance on the wave machine to see how much I remembered from me and the boys trip out west. It does make a difference how much practice you get when me and the boys had the machine all to ourselves for a full hour, and here at soundwaves you may get 4 minutes after a 45 minute wait. My goal was get to sitting criss cross apple sauce on the board, which is what I worked my way up to out in Phoenix. Very difficult for a non water guy like me. But I made it to my knees and did some tricks with the lady teaching me up front, but she did not appear to remember I told her I wanted to get to being on my seat...so I tried to do it without her instruction, and pulled the board too far back while I was hopping from knee to butt, which very quickly put me in a forward flip. Time moves a little slower in moments of stupidity, and I remember my head going thru the waves and hitting the floor of the machine, then felt my neck slightly bend to the left as my legs went above me. I think if you slowed down the video (yes, magan has this somewhere), I was still trying to do criss cross apple sauce in the air, as the wave pushed me, ON MY HEAD, up the slope to the wipe out zone. Perhaps because the instructor lady was just happy to see I was still alive when she ran up to check on me, they let me go once again. Yep, I am sure this is yet another multiverse death of mine, but in this one, I hopped back on the board plunged back into the wave and within about 60 seconds was riding "indian-style", as kid-Scott would have said, for at least 3 seconds before wiping out again and handing over my board.
Davis came back to the water park, at about the same time Magan and Belle decided to go back to the room. But me and Davis and Ruby were not finished yet. Davis hit the wave rider one last time, and this time went with the knee board. He just naturally has more talent on this kind of craziness, so I had fun watching him throw his board and catch it, then he did a full roll over without wiping out. Me and Ruby hung out in the lazy river for a bit more, and if it was up to Ruby, we would have stayed till closing, but I think everyone else had had enough, so we took one last trip on the "toilet bowl" for our last rides of the day, and left Soundwaves.
Belle and Mom had gotten back to the room in time to watch an ice skating show out of our window. And that evening we all gathered in the large delta atrium to eat pizza while watching the water fountain show. Tell us about it Mr. Google...Experience Gaylord Opryland’s signature nightly light show in our beautiful atrium or from your balcony in select atrium-view guest rooms. Marvel at the wonder of our seasonally themed spectacle and enjoy dazzling lights harmonized to thrilling music in this not-to-be-missed performance.
We sat and waited for our Pizza, but just all smiling and talking about a fun day at Soundwaves, questioning the boys for going to the gym, wondering why Sam was coloring pictures in the kid area, Ruby telling us about an $8 toy in the shop that they sold for $2 at their Christmas Store at school. Davis and Sam going on their own adventures around the hotel. Then we had some Auntie Annies, where both Magan and I had to get in line separately so we could double up on our Marriot hotel coupons. I had a hard time going to sleep that night. Not just because of a really sore neck, haha, but sad thinking about these days of us six slowly coming to an end. It really hurts my heart sometimes to write these blogs and see these pictures. But I hit "Publish" and store that memory. Then the next month happens, or even the next day, and the amazing moments are still there, just sometimes with just one of these kiddos instead of all 4. Oh well, I know I shed a tear that night, felt one tonight as I write, but it was an amazing day, and I loved having another night with all 4 in the same room on a mini-vacation.
