Another Night with the Barons

Magan's Facebook Post:  "Nothing says summer like a family Barons Game night . Our team brought home the win! The 7th inning stretch where we wave to the Children with our phone lights at Children’s Hospital always brings a tear to my eye, especially when I can see a few little lights waving back at us in the windows. I love our hometown and the joy of this great American Pass time spent with the people I love the most."

Looking at the days left in Summer, and I saw that a Braves game was not going to happen.   So, I looked for the next best thing, a night with the Barons!   We sent the invite out to Granny and Granddaddy, who turned us down, but we did pick up Noel, who came to the house to ride to the game with us.   Sam and Davis are working at Rozar's this summer and just drove over to the stadium after work.   There was an ugly nasty rainstorm that had Waze take us all the way around Birmingham coming out in the Roebuck area before going back into the city.   Sam and Davis also had an adventure trying to get someones tire changed after the storm.  But we ordered the pizza from Tortugas on the way, and Sam and Davis held the table till we got there.

Sam is currently going through a clumsy phase, maybe a Noel effect, but he had spilled water all over the table before we arrived, and while they cleaned up the table, apparently they missed the one seat where all the water spilled...mine.   Ok, wet butt, at least we had some good pizza.   For once in my ordering days, I actually ordered too little and while I think everyone got plenty, we did not get outright miserable as is typically expected with a Tortugas meal.   It was amazing as usual, but I think Noel is starting to think that all we eat is Italian food, as I think this may be number 5 or 6 meal of that with her.

Inside the stadium, it was Bobblehead Day, so we all got a Birmingham Black Baron bobblehead to take home.   Then made our way for the family picture.   I was frustrated because I did not tell the girl to hold the camera up higher to get the field, but oh well, we are all in the picture and I guess that is all that matters.   Weather was fairly nice after the rain, and the barons had a pretty good crowd here.   I bought a little Barons Ball, and had fun with Ruby, Sam and Davis out in the little ballpark in the outfield.   We played 2 on 2, and had a pretty good game.   I think Sam and Ruby beat us in the end.   I hit the only homerun, and there is video of this feat somewhere to watch proudly.   But Ruby surprised us all when she caught not 1, not 2, but 3 pop-ups I hit into the air.

I remember all of these guys as little ones excited to see Babe Ruff and the girl dog (Willa Mays maybe?), but Ruby just loved these dogs and slept with the little fluffy mascots for the longest.   I guess our days at the blow up park are done, but I don't miss that at all.   It was an extremely long game with both pitching staffs getting hammered.   Lots of runs = a very long game.   But we did a walk around the stadium once, we had a dessert run for ice cream, we waved out phone lights for the kids at Children's Hospital during the 7th inning stretch, and cheered when the Barons Won the game!  And after a very long night at the ballpark, we of course stayed to watch the Friday Night Fireworks!
