Well, we had this six flags trip with the youth many years ago, and I have been trying to find time to do it again. And while we did not have a huge group that was able to go, it was nice to gather a few into the van and drive over for the day. I guess when 30% of the youth group are your kids, it makes it easy to make a day and go to Six Flags. With our guest passes, we were also able to get Grant and Sarah Beth in for free.
The day began early meeting at the church at 6:30 to leave. And once we were all there, we left out and made our normal stop at ChickFilA in Bremen. The main thing I remember is us all picking on Baker because he ordered the 4 count mini, but only wanted the chicken nuggets. We said "You know you can just order the nuggets if that is all you want". Haha, he thought that was just a breakfast thing, but he did not realize that is was their pleasure to serve him nuggets in the morning. He said he learned his lesson the week later after returning from FC camp, when his parents stopped at a CFA, and he finally was able to get just the chicken nuggets he wanted. I think his parents also learned this CFA ordering technique.
I think Grant had never rode any roller coasters before this day, and Baker had not rode any at Six Flags, but they all did great with no issues, as we hit Cyclone, the Scorcher, then Mind Bender, then Batman, the Catwoman (just the boys, not me or the girls), then Goliath a couple of times, and finally to the new "Gold Rush" ride that was closed, so on to the Blue Hawk, Superman, and DC shooter ride. At this point, we had hit pretty much every ride in the park, and it was only 1PM, so we decided to take lunch.
Me, Grant and Sam wanted a hamburger, while the rest went to get tacos. And they all walked further, got their food, and ate it, before me and Sam every even got our hamburgers. It was ridiculous, but typical of Six Flags. After our meal, our day of 100% sunny, quickly became 100% rainy. We waited for a break in the rain, then rain up to Monster Plantation, thinking it would be open as it was indoors, but no. Then we ran to some shops to do some shopping, and with rain in the forecast for another 3 hours, we made the tough decision to just leave the park early. I don't think anyone was in favor of this, but all understood.
But Grant had a large crazy hat that he wanted that was on the other side of the park, so we decided to stay together and go after the crazy hat. We stopped and rode the carousel joking that this could be our last ride of the day, as it was the only thing open in a storm. Basically no safety for the little kids. All of the little kid rides were open while everything else was closed. Then when we had that, we saw that the DC shooter ride was open and inside, so we got in line with everyone else, and stayed dry waiting for one more ride to extend our fun day. Davis always scores highest in these rides, I don't know what exactly he is pointing at, I am just randomly squeezing trigger, as you may be able to tell with my confused face in the picture below.
Anyway we walked out of the DC ride to a whole new day. The sun was back out, and after taking a group bathroom stop, we realized the Scream Machine was running. So on we went, not for any fun, this ride is just punishment and nostalgia at this point. Leaving this ride, all with back pains, we headed directly to Thunder River, which I think was all the kids goal for this day. And secretively, It was what I was looking forward to also, but with a pile of souvenir bags and six flags cups, and everyone with a pocket full of iphone, I quickly became the "bag guy" while they threw their stuff in and ran for the front of the line. My phone had died, so I grabbed Sams, and told Davis to text me when they got on the river...Then I settled down to get a good video of their raft coming down. Then I realized I did not know Sam's code, so I ran up the line to find him, and get the code...then again back to my settling down place.
It was a perfect last ride for the group as they quickly got to my spot and I missed Anabelle going under the waterfall, because Davis did not text me. They saw me up on the bridge with a confused look and my hands help up in a question. That is when Davis realized he texted my dead phone, and not Sam's phone. Then I quickly got a text that "We are going again". hahaha, so they never had to get off the boat and rode 3 full rides in a row, all of them getting soaked. Walking back to the front of the park, I will say I missed the excitement on the boat of not knowing who would get splashed, but I certainly enjoyed not being wet walking. We did finally get to ride Monster Plantation walking back to the front and almost tipped into the water several times laughing all the way through this crazy ride, thinking we may sink with all 7 of us on the boat. And you know the best thing to help you get dry before you head home...one more ride on the Cyclone.
So while we did hear alot of random "Grantism" questions throughout the day..."Why are we doing this?" "Why are we standing here"? :) We were all thankful for Grant's giant crazy Six Flags hat. For without going across the park to get his hat, we would have missed a fun 2nd half of this six flags day. We had one last stop at Arby's back in Bremen on the way home, where we all changed back into dry clothes. Then one last "Why are we getting off at this exit?" from Grant, to respond with "Because this is the exit that gets us back home". And while the day was over, the memories began by sharing some pictures with Mom and Ruby, and finding the treasure of Davis' face that we zoomed in on with the pictures below.
