ALDI Comes to Chelsea

I did not ever believe that I would have a blog entry dedicated to an ALDI store, but when Magan and her BFF Amanda decided to wake up early to get in line to be one of the first 100 people in Chelsea to attend the Grand Opening, I thought it warranted its own entry.   Magan was first in line that morning leaving even before Ruby was on the bus, but she said people had obviously been there perhaps camping the night before.   With Amanda having to drop Claire off at school, she arrived shortly afterwards to join Magan in line.

The goal was to be one of the first 100, as that got you one of the bags of freebies, and a gift card potentially worth $100.   Luckily, Magan holding the line for Amanda was still early enough in the morning before the line got closer to the 100 number.   Magan said at that point, people started to get a little angry at any line holders or breakers.   One older man shared to the group near Amanda and Magan that "I have been in every jail in Shelby County, and I am ready to kick some [butt] if people start skipping line now".   This also prompted one lady that was waiting in her car to get out and try and stand in the line.   She apparently had some hip issues, and had to do some strange hip exercises rubbing up against the wall.

"This is really why we come" Amanda said to Magan...cracking them both up.   They finally passed out some placeholder cards which helped stop some of the line breaking, and placed our dynamic duo at numbers 50 and 51.   They saw Pam and Rob Britt enter the line towards the back and found out later they were unfortunately at numbers 104 and 105, which got them a free ALDI bag, but no freebies or gift card.

Sadly I will admit, that I found the livestream of this grand opening event on facebook, and watched the ribbon cutting, then a local Chelsea outreach person interview the store manager, and some random people inside.   He also interviewed our new mayor of Chelsea pictured below, Cody Sumners.   I kept expecting them to interview Magan, but never saw Amanda or Magan during the livestream event.   So I waited till they got home, with a bag full of freebies, and a $10 giftcard.   Welcome to Chelsea, ALDI...maybe one day I will make it inside the store.
