Engagement Party at the Hornsby's

The invitations came in the mail surprising everyone in both the Junkin and Montgomery household, except for Sam and Noel.  Janie and Jeff Hornsby had reached out to them about putting together an Engagement Party at their home.  Which worked out well, as we had been looking for an opportunity to have the Montgomerys down to Chelsea anyway.

Everyone came to our house first, and mainly all (or at least the guys) were concerned that the Bama game would be on.   Sam stayed busy on the computer for much of the time, always working to stay on top of his studies.   I made sure I had a Pepsi for Wes, and Magan showed Alecia around the house, then found a place in the kitchen where they could all chat about wedding stuff, and kitchen stuff, and whatever else stuff that women talk about.

Over at the Hornsbys, Janie had everything decorated wonderfully as always.   She opened the door with a "Yes, the game is on in the living room, come on in", and we all filtered in to find our seats to watch the end of another really close game.   Samuel commented that Bama was going to give him a heart attack this year with all these close games.   Janie served the punch which was tart, but very good.   Of course the boys had to drink theirs with pinkies up.

For dinner, we had some mac and cheese, sliced ham, and a grape salad.   All was delicioso! and I was doing well until we got to the Bread Pudding.   Which was amazing, but the richness did not set well with my stomach (normal for me), but did allow me to appreciate the new heated seats in the bathroom.   The ladies were at the back room probably talking about wedding stuff or kitchen stuff or whatever else they talk about.   While the men stayed in the kitchen getting protein tips from Samuel, and picking on Sam for talking about going to the Home DeePot.

And after our meal, Janie pulled out the surprises with "Time for Games".   Neither families expecting this, but both families up for games, and two dads never even imagining the pictures that would be floating in social media by the end of the night (NOEL!!).   The first game included Janie sharing some words that none of us have ever heard before, with our goal to determine if these were real words or ones that she just made up.   I was pretty sure that most were fake, except for "dongle" since I deal with "dongles" often in the computer world.   At the end of these crazy words, we were surprised that ALL of them were real, even the definitions that Janie had for them were also real.   I think Keegan thought that most were fake, which ended up making him the winner.

And that is when Janie announced the second game.   Each family would be dressing up the dad in a bridal gown with a competition to see which was prettiest.   Now I have been known to dress as a woman in high school, and sometimes on a particular boring weekend here or there, but when I saw Wes's face, I just have to say, I knew he would be a good sport, but he was not planning on being a woman in Chelsea when he headed down this afternoon.

I don't know how the other room went, but I silently stood still while everyone clothed me in toilet paper.   Janie had also provided us with some flowers to decorate.   Ruby made my cute little shoes, and I think our crew made a critical decision by not wrapping around at the waist, but instead using several long pieces taped vertically.   And finally with the bridal march song playing, we marched into the living room to stand together.   Two proud dads of their children about to get married next June, both of them in drag awaiting a decision from Sam and Noel about who was the prettiest.   As we stood there, Wes' dress slid down turning it into more of a mini skirt, which I thought was unfair potentially swaying Jeff who would be the tie breaker vote.   In the end, a decision could not be reached, perhaps we should have let the Social Media masses make the decision, but in my mind, Wes will always win this night because of the giant bow on his head.   Although looking at these pictures and seeing my train from the back for the first time, I was really impressed by what Belle and Magan did for me back there.   There may be a market for these TP dresses.

It was a really fun night, and the surprise invitations ended with a wonderful dinner with our church friends.   Janie also had little squish pumpkins that we could all write words of encouragement to our cute couple.   When I thanked Janie for the wonderful evening, she shared the following "The party worked so well! Being with your family is always a pleasure.   Also, we enjoyed meeting the Montgomery family...what a pleasure to have our home full of fellow Christians!   Sam and Noel should have a happy marriage if they follow the example you and Magan have shown Sam and the obvious example Wes and Alysha have shown Noel".   We are super thankful to the Hornsbys for making another wonderful memory in our life!
