While we did not have as big a crowd as we have had in the past, we did have 6 teams of mentors and mentees ready to battle it out in the 2026 Mentor Games! The Kolbs were our amazing hosts once again, and we of course began with the dominoes pizza. Mrs Staci made her famous kitchen sink cookies, and all were good and fed and ready for the games to begin.
Our games this year included a Mentor/Mentee match game where both selected the answers to random questions to see how many would match. Magan was not happy that Sarah Beth thought she was 49 years old. We then had a Flip 7 game that went well better than I thought it was going to go, with probably the most laughter and fun at this game. The recurring dice rolling game was bought back, and the counting game was a bad of 87 juegetes (toys) that I usually have in my back pack in Honduras. Then we went outdoors for the very difficult balloon toss, which may be repeated because it kept things pretty even. And then we ended with the Bible Drill for both mentors and mentees.
In the end, the scores were pretty tight, but the 1st prize went to Staci Kolb and Linley Rawls! They cheered and jumped and we let them get all of the way through "We are the champions" with the noise makers, when David Holley asked me about their score. I told them that they were close, but only had 14 points in the first round. That is when Ruby and I realized that we had not given them 2 points for each match, so that 14 points in round 1 was actually 28 points, and that actually put them in first place.
So embarrassingly, I had my own Steve Harvey Miss Universe experience, where I had to stop all of the celebration, and take the bowling pin trophy from Linley and pass it over to David Holley and Chris Baker. So we ended up singing "We are the champions" twice for two different sets of winners, and only me being the loser for not double checking the scores first. And with our Mentor year now winding down, the new mentor year will begin soon, and this year Ruby is excited to finally get her own mentor.
