I can't believe that little boy is now 17 years old. He is a pretty amazing son, great brother to his siblings, and pretty thrifty guy...so when it came to birthday gifts and plans, he was pretty cool with anything we wanted to put together. The USFL Stallions game was his idea, and it worked well. Palmer and Thomas joined the Junkin boys, for a supper at Panda Express, then a trip to watch the Stallions stay undefeated at the new Protective Stadium. No assigned seats, so we sat pretty close to the field. We had crazy suit dude that may have had too many adult beverages nearby, along with a large group of surprisingly avid Birmingham fans. They actually wanted us to get up and cheer out of our seats. Oh well, USFL has not risen to that level just yet, but it was a fun game. We watched as the crowd finally got the wave going around the whole stadium, and the crowd got pretty loud as the wave went round and round...then we realized that a player was injured on the field, and it appeared that the wave was just mocking him. Oh well. Later we were treated to some fireworks, which started like a backyard show, but finally ended with some pizazz.
Belle made Sam the Star Wars birthday cake. Those two have become some pretty good buds lately joining in many Star Wars conversations, and she had picked up some Brandon Sanderson novels based on his recommendations. And that is it, our #1 is now 17, and while still just a kid, he has matured much this past year. Big decisions lay ahead, but I feel confident that he will make good ones. Look forward to seeing what this kid can do.
