We only have one mentor/mentee combination this year in our family. Anabelle selected Kelly Baker to be her mentor, and while they have not gotten to do a lot yet, this was a fun event for all of the mentors and mentees to come together. The Speers family hosted this event again this year, and did a great job setting everything up. They definitely have a better layout to get everyone working on their projects.
Anabelle and Kelly created the "Ginger Barbie Ginger Dream House", and while they did not place and win a prize, I will say that one judge put them in one of the top spots. It was fun just hanging out and being a judge this year, as decorating a gingerbread house is at the bottom of the list of things I like to do. My favorite house this year was created by Andrew Rawls, and it was a death star gingerbread house that Andrew had baked and prepped for this event. They took 3rd prize on this day. David Holley and Chris Baker put together a lincoln log home that took second prize. But the fully decorated Gingerbread home and farm from Linley and Staci Kolby took first prize.
As we do each year, the kids all shared a story of what happened to the characters in their gingerbread house, and if you search thru the videos you will find these, and many were very funny. Another fun event for these guys. And based on the blog search, it appears that this was the 6th annual event. I told the Speers that we had locked them into a 10 year hosting commitment.
