Atlanta Day 1 - Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor

This is our Six Flags year, which requires this trip to Atlanta to hit both Water Parks, Hurricane Harbor and White Water.   We did this trip in 2023, and tied in a Braves game.   But when looking at schedules, I just could not find anything that would work, and thus a Birmingham Barons night was made earlier in the year, and the water park weekend pushed into July.   And this would also be our first overnight adventure with Noel, which added to the fun.   She kept apologizing for being the odd man out, but I told her that was Sam, we were planning to take her anyway, Sam just showed up as the odd man out.

Six Flags is almost just on speed dial at this point, so we just dialed in our normal wake up time, hopped in the van, stopped at ChickFilA in Breman, Davis sat on Ruby's head, Davis stayed in the bathroom for an extremely long time, we listened to Pandora radio, and arrived at Six Flags in time for the park opening.   Strangely when we arrived, a line was all the way out to almost the parking area.   Which is strange and very rare at Six Flags, but they had not allowed anyone into the park early as they usually do.   So right at 11AM, the doors opened, and the line moved very fast.

Once inside, we made our way over to the Cyclone to get our day started with the best ride at all of Six Flags.   Even Ruby decided to join us on this ride.   Then we continued our route over to Hurricane Harbor, but when Magan and Ruby saw that the Joker Coaster was running (very rare) and that the line was short (double rare), all of the kids ran to ride one more coaster before we began our water adventure.

Finally over to Hurricane Harbor, we arrived as the park opened at noon, and quickly proceeded to our rented Cabana.   We had done this in 2023, and from my blog notes and memories, realized this was a must.   This time I splurged for the Premium Cabana, which was double the size, but comes with two couches and a table, meals for 8 people ($20/each), desserts for the people, 6 bottle sodas, 6 bottle waters, private locker in your cabana, fan overhead, two loungers, and private access to the wave pool.  Oh yeah!   I guess when a family worth of season passes is less than 1 day at Disney, you can splurge on a cabana.

So, Hurricane Harbor is a waterpark, but on this day, the best slide was broken, the play area was only half open, so that left the wave pool, half of a play area that had 2 body slides, and three tube slides.   But it is really a great place to relax, as you can walk across the complete water park in about 2 minutes.   And while much of the park is the normal water park experience, with wet BO smells randomly lurking around every corner, it has the giant buckets that dump a load of water on you all at once.   Which secretly is my favorite part anyway.   May have been Sam and Noel's also, as they snuck off as I was renting the Cabana, to get the first bucket splash of the day.

So I heard from Sam and Noel that they saw someone smash their head trying to get a quick start ont eh green body slide.   The guy was bleeding all over at the bottom, but this is Six Flags, they didn't even shut down the slide...Sam went down right after.   Ruby told me about another time on the purple body slide when the person told her to go, but she meant for the other person on the green slide...so halfway down Ruby hit the girl in front of her...then hit her again...and almost got hit from another person coming behind here.   Again, this is Six Flags, and we are on the border of Water Park anarchy at this place.

We had a really good lunch, where all of us got our own meal, very rare for this Junkin Crew.   And everyone had massive double cheeseburgers, which were great, but came back to haunt us later.   Since much of the park was closed, that afternoon around 4PM, we walked over to Thunder River.   In the line, Mom and Davis had to listen to annoying boston accent lady riding with her kids...and they got to be on the boat with us, Yeah!  On the boat, Ruby was unfortunate to have to site beside Magan, who crushed her once during one of the hard bumps against the side of the river, but then on the second time, Ruby's arm was caught between the plastic seat which left Ruby crying in pain for the remainder of the ride.   Somewhat fun for everyone else though, even tho I felt horrible for Ru, because I saw it happen and knew it hurt.   Then as we left the Thunder River line, a lady on the other side of the line just was holding her kid letting him puke into the exit line.   I mean, the other side of the line was just trees, but I have been in that position before, and sometimes you grab and don't aim well.   So we all stepped around the puke, glad it was not us but perhaps a sign of what was to come.

Back at Hurricane Harbor, we enjoyed the buckets a few last times.   Oh yeah, I forgot that while we were over at Thunder River, they shut the full play area down.   When I asked what happened, the guy told me that some people had to go on break.   WHAT IN THE WORLD?   Six Flags is crazy...but apparently the people came back to work, and play area opened up again.   Mom took another nap at the Cabana.  Me and Ruby played in the waves letting them crash us over and over again.   Belle just laid in the water in our private cabana area.   And we finally all took turns getting into our dry clothes and getting ready to leave the water park.   Belle looked at Mom, and made a comment about six flags tomato farming after seeing Magan turning red.

All of our towels and wet clothes were very heavy, and we still wanted to ride some rides before we left for the day, so pack mule dad took everything and walked it all the way out to the van, then back into the park to meet everyone else.   And I have done some back packing and had some hard times, and other times were much harder, but that walk to the van and back...was a pain.   I just kept telling myself that there were ice cold waters in the van...and quickly downed one when I got there.   Back in the park, we arranged so that all of us (except for Ruby and Mom) would ride the new coaster "Goldrush" together.   Sam and Noel had been riding some coasters, Belle and Davis had been riding some coasters, and Mom and Ruby had been riding some kid rides.   But all ended up at Goldrush, while Mom and Ruby watched and took pictures.   And of course on our way out, we all fit into a Monster Mansion boat for one more ride.   Don't tip the boat!!

Our Marriott hotel room was not too far up North of town and right across the interstate from the Braves stadium.   We visited the Concierge area for some sodas, water, and really good cake.   Davis figured out how to get them out on the patio area here.   And also about this time, I was not feeling well, but the Starry Soda helped my stomach to settle.   Sam was not so lucky, and broke out in some weird hives, then after everyone ate some papa johns pizza (besides Sam), he went to the bathroom and puked his guts out.   We joked that the benedryll for the hives was in the toilet with the chunks of that cheeseburger.   We could laugh though, because finally after that heavy puke, Sam was somewhat back to himself...and as we all went to bed watching "Press your Luck", our whole room (Mom, me, Sam, Davis) were in good spirits cheering for the lady that had a crazy amount of good luck with no whammys, and won like $450K.

I am sure the girls found some movie about love called "Heart's Endearing Promise" or perhaps some figure skating competition.   I don't know, but I can't have been as good as Press Your Luck.   So one day down, our plan was to sleep late with Sam's sickness, and just enjoy a late morning.   At least that was the goal...maybe Ruby did not know about the goal.
