Honduras Day 5 - Cacao School and Discussion on Elders/Deacons

On this day, we took the group to the Cacao school, but the whole Chelsea group missed the first load, so we all got stuck at the day care waiting for the 25 minute round trip trucks to get back to us to pick up and take us to the school.   No worries tho, everyone is in Hondurena time, and we begin when we begin.   The school did a very nice presentation with all the kids singing and sharing some songs, then the principal provided some gifts to our chelsea group, the texas group, and to CRF.

The skit gets better and better with each run through, as well as our songs.   I think the Bible Drill and match game went well again on this day, but we had our activities right next to a large soccer field, so that took many of the kids out for those games.   The little magic book continues to be a hit with the kids all smiling.   The principal of this school even pointed me out to one of the kids and told him to go watch the tricks.   And at the one school where we were actually given a gift, we forgot the teachers gifts for this school.   Whoops.

While I was playing some games under the shade in the stands of this soccer field, I later heard about Vinsant going down.   Scott Vinsant had been stretching each morning, and doing a lot of exercises recently, and when they decided to do some racing in the soccer field, he decided that he could beat Jordan, the girl that was planning to be his geriatric nurse.   And he did outrun her not once, but twice...then they wanted to do it one more time, and that is always the worst on that one last time.   Well, Scott told me the story that he was winning on this third race till the very last 10 yards when he felt his hamstring go in the left leg.   But not wanting to be beat, he pushed harder with the other leg to finish, which of course pulled that hamstring, then with one last leap to the finish where he would lay in pain, he ended up pulling his groin muscle also.   All that had him in tremendous pain, but makes me laugh as I write it.   But it was BAD, and I saw the bruising black and blue all the way down the back of his legs later that day.   I really never even knew about it till seeing him on the bed with ice on the back of his legs later that day.

We got some pictures with the Campamento sign on the way back to the daycare (Oscar joined us starting on this day, he was one of our translators last year, so we got him in our family pic this year), and once back there, it did not take much to get Belle and Maddyn to join me for some Granitas in the square.   Ashley and Denise also joined us with some of the Wasner family as well.   Belle had a pineapple Granita and we drank it will exploring the park.   After we got back to the daycare, I passed out with the longest nap of the whole week.

That evening was the second event that we had scheduled with the local church.   They had sent us some questions on the selection of Elders and Deacons, and asked us to present our experience with the process.   And I think this meeting went really well.   We had many of the older men and women at the church building in town, and had a good discussion with some Q&A time.   Carlos helped translate this meeting.   Carlos had lived much of his life in Miami, and very fluent in english, so helped during this meeting alot.   Carlos also had suffered with some addictions in the past and trying to work through them.   We had a lot of good, but difficult conversations with him during the week.   But this meeting went really well, and while I don't know if the church here in Cano/Pino is ready to start the selection process, but we really challenged the men to start filling those roles even if they don't have the title.   And not to look at the quals as a checklist, but rather a collection of qualities that those men are trying to live.

Afterwards we enjoyed a good meal of steak, plantains, beans and eggs.   There was some weird cheese stuff and then something I translated as butter, but I tasted as sour mayo.   Pretty good meal tho as we got to visit with our church family there.   I ran over to sit with my good friend Israel, and we had a great time catching up.   At one point I told him and his wife Olga that I had an 18 year old son, and they have an 18 year old girl, when do we need to start filling out the papers.   Hahaha....He and Olga loved this idea.   Later when Israel's daughter came over, the ladies starting giggling as they shared this idea with the daughter...I started picking on them to not tell my plans.   Later Modesto came over to our table, and I greeted him with his name.   Then Israel corrected me that his name was Molesto, not modesto.   It was fun to watch these two old men picking on each other as Molestar is to "annoy" in spanish, and Israel was picking on his old friend.   Modesto asked for my notebook and wrote in there so I would not get it wrong that it was Modesto with a D.

Before we left, Eduardo's sister brought some purses in that she was selling to help with expenses for her daughter, and I quickly grabbed the one that was all in Honduras colors to show Belle, and she immediately said yes to this souvenir.   We also got to hold baby Aaron again on this night, and I found out that he needed a sponsor.   Knowing that that would be as simple as sharing his cute little smile with the church family, I told them I would see what I could do.  (And already we have a sponsor for Baby Aaron).  Eduardo's sister was super nice, and even tho I was trying to help by giving her a little extra lempira for the expenses, she handed me and belle another purse (that we would gift to Ruby) and said it was for us helping aaron.  :)   I love these people.

And from the pictures below, I see that Sam and Davis got the Number 21 haircut on this day, probably went with Jeffrey while me and Belle were getting Granitas.   We all got our names on the wall now with the Chelsea Heart.   And I finally caught Sam in his all winter gear that he sleeps in every night.   The rest of us in our underwear, he is still cold in all of that.   I will say that he is on the top bunk directly under the fan...but I don't think I would need that many clothes.   You will notice that he is the only one with a sweatshirt in some of these pics.
