The morning began like most others, but for Vinsant, he was in pain, and not moving much. I know that Denise was in our room a bit the evening before helping him with some wraps and some ice for his legs. Which made it even funnier later at the breakfast table when Donny was asking about where Scott was, and Denise said "Oh, he must have run to the restroom". Donny quickly replied "Scott didn't run anywhere". haha...maybe you had to be there, and maybe you just have to know Donny's voice...that that was hilarious.
On this day, we traveled to the Chachahuata school, and always one of my favorites because of their director here, Francisco. He always has some excellent skits of the dangers of sin that his students act out for us. He also brought out a giant parachute to do a skit where the israelites broke thru on solid ground, but the water swallowed up the egyptian army.
After our normal skit, we divided up again into different activities and games. I pulled out the Bible period game again here and it worked pretty well when I limited it to 10 periods. The kids were excited after I mixed them up to try and put them back in order. I hope to have a few sets in spanish for next year, as the pictures help, but I need the words.
This was also the school where my friend Fabricio attends, but he is no longer at this school as it is only up to the 5th grade. So I took a picture of me and his sister and sent it to him, then later he showed up and hung out with us for the remainder of the day. After showing some of the kids a couple of card tricks, the director asked for the cards, and showed me another really cool way to do a similar trick, with a shuffle from the bottom of the deck.
I am glad others were taking pictures, because it seems I rarely see Sam, Davis or Belle during these days, but I did see that Belle got to hold a 1 month old baby. Me and Sam thought we had it made on the way back getting the whole back of a truck to just me and him...well, we thought, till everyone else jumped in and we were cramped as usual. I threw some toys to the kids from my truck as we headed back into town, finding Fabricio and some of his buddies with one last wave goodbye for the year.
That afternoon, we waited till about 4 PM to let things cool down a bit, then a large group of us walked around town to the large climb up the Picona hill. This was Davis' first time up. Belle did great also getting up here. And while it was a major climb, the breeze at the top was great, and we all just sat up there resting and hanging out for a long time. We all got pictures with the city behind us, then started back down. That is when Andrew Rawls thought it was funny throwing a giant rock down the hill...down the same hill that we were walking down, and the same hill that people from the town would walk up, and the same hill that had kids at the bottom of it playing when we came up, and the same hill where a large SUV was parked at the bottom where we walked up. Fortunately, this giant rock went a little off course to the right. And I think the stern looks of "Are you an idiot" from me and Jonathan quickly knocked the smile off of him...and when he realized what could have happened (this was a slow realization) he also calmed down a bit. Very scary moment, at least for me.
At the bottom, we walked over to the Granita stand and got some more cold iced beverages for the walk back. But Sam came with me as I was going to visit Israel at his home. They don't really have addresses here, but Eduardo had helped me identify his room with a Google Map image, so I had a dropped pin and knew about where he would be. On our way to his place, we saw an awesome sunset, then heard from the distance "Hey Escott" (They always Say the "S" in my name)...it was one of the young boys from church, Jefferson! He was wearing his brand new Chelsea heart shirt, and when I made it up to him, I asked if he could be my guide to Israels home. I later found out that he was one of Israels grandsons.
That was a really great experience visiting Israel in his home with Sam. We looked at all his photos and spoke about family. I encouraged him to keep thinking about elders/deacons because he would be a good one. Then as it was getting dark, I told him we better head back to the daycare. Glad Sam joined me for this visit, and glad to have some moments with just him walking back to the daycare. I don't know if he will be with us next year, but know that he is a worker, and we will miss him on the team if he is unable to make it. We didn't talk about alot, but he did talk me into a quick stop at the Pollolandia for some chicken. And it was amazing, just as advertised.
That night was clearly the best meal that night of papusas, empanados, toquitos, awesome meat on faluatas. And there is slaw and red sauce you can dump on all of this, making me hungry as I write this. And from the pictures, I got Brandon giving Israel his Chelsea shirt, which Israel told Brandon he wanted the day before. I asked Israel at his home why he wasnt wearing it, and it was being washed. And we did get one of the trucks stuck this day. Maddyn just took control and taught this one classroom, which I thought was funny. Oh, and the little sweet picture was from one of the daycare children, Danessi. Apparently Briggeth told her that I was her sponsor, so she was thanking me. So sweet, she has a sponsor already, but I was glad that I could be there for her sponsor this week. :)
