Weird how this guy getting married was just a little toddler the other day, but we get older and the next generation starts getting married, then children, then I guess family gets larger to a breaking point, then slowly gets a little smaller as everyone gets together with the more immediate family. Or at least that is what I have seen in my experience. So we are currently at the upturn towards the breaking point. But it is a pretty long ride up, and this was just the first step in that climb.
Magan and Ruby went up early on a Friday to get things ready for the wedding that evening. I think Davis and Belle had something at school, but we were there a little later in the day. It seems like the whole month of December was one long string of events like this over and over. So my memory of this day is very fuzzy. But I remember biscuits and gravy, a ride with Sam to the event, and that Sylus and Stephanie got married on this day.
Afterwards there was some dancing, some sparklers, some really good BBQ potatoes, and clean up time. Of course much of Magan's family was there for this event. Uncle Butch is my favorite tho, very easy to talk with, and he just has some infectious happiness that he brings every time he comes into the room. Judy was doing well and continuing to recover.
I remember chatting with Noel's dad Wes about this new couple, and as we were speaking looking over to the main table where they were staring back at us talking about them. But perhaps they were just talking about the coolest dudes at the wedding focusing on their dads.
I remember some fun conversation with Sam and Davis about this being the ideal place to pick up a lady. As these were typically the types of ladies you would want to marry. I think I shared a line like "Hey, I have been looking around for a beautiful lady, but I am glad I can stop now", but I don't think he chose to use that one...or any of them. I did see him helping Elizabeth Weeks (star of all of the Sartin plays) with some things to her car, and prompted him to use the line...maybe later.
A wedding is a joyous occasion. I think most think to their own wedding day, at least for a moment during the ceremony. I was not blogging that long ago, and can't remember much anymore of that day in May, 2001. But there are moments, some that Magan and I laugh together about, some that we cry about, one that we laugh about that Magan did not set herself on fire. Then that drive away on your own. Glad for another reminder of those laughs, a reminder of some tears, a reminder of that drive that continues forward. It has had some bumps here and there, but I can't think of anything better than this ride we have shared.
