Mentor Gingerbread

Our first mentor activity of each year is the Gingerbread contest.   Anabelle's mentor is Phyllis Hamilton and Davis' mentor is Chris Baker.  Magan got a first year off of being a mentor in a while, and I will be mentoring Grant Dabbs this year.   This year, the Speer family asked to host the event, and we had plenty of room to spread out into our own work areas.   I think there are some rules in this contest, but really it is just a fun way to get the mentor and mentee together.

I absolutely despise building a gingerbread house, so instead I have elected to purchase the pre-built houses to help keep my patience in check at these events.   Grant was ok with that, as I also bought some legos to use as a backstory for our house, and he got to put those together, while I began decorating the house.   We had many lego people with some strange Whale that was in the driveway.   Grant made up a good story about Santa landing on the house, but dropping an elf off the side.   It worked, and it was fun working with him on this project.

Belle had a cool idea of making the gingerbread house within a snow globe, so theirs was built pretty quick, but then her and Phyllis had a lot of decorations for the inside of the globe.   Davis and Chris' was an "Elf" themed home, with even the Narwhal making an appearance near their home.   Davis got a little "help" from Chris' nephew max, but they were a good sport and had a great time with it.

Easily the champions and winners of this event was Linley Rawls and Kelly Speer, who were attacked for some early prep work and some inedible portions of their project, but the point is to get the mentors together with their mentee, and they did great.   They did a scene of whoville with the large mountain where the grinch lives made of colored rice crispies.

During the presentation, each team tells the story of their gingerbread home/creation, with one even including a heavily ChatGPT backstory of a mexican boy named Miguel.   But in the end, Whoville was the champion.   All had some pizza.   I enjoyed an interesting gingerbread cookie.   And we all had a great time at this event.
