Field Trip with Ruby to the Southern Museum of Flight

As soon as I found out about this field trip, I put vacation on my work calendar.   So many memories we have had at this museum that was a favorite of me and the boys.   Then when I kept talking to Ruby about how we used to come here all the time, she confused me when she said "I have never been to this place before".   And looking back in the blogs, maybe she did, but she was very little...there, I found her little face looking up at Davis at his 10th birthday in 2017...last picture.

It was still fun, but crowded with hundreds of 5th graders.   I was chaperone for Ruby and two of her friends in class, and I have already forgotten their names.   I began with a mistake by bringing Ruby a sandwich from subway.   She had just gotten her braces on, and teeth feeling miserable.   She wanted soup, and I thought they had that at Subway, but they did not.   So I got a soft flatbread, but it was not what she needed.   I felt bad that I did not stop at Panera or even bring some apple sauce.   Ugh Dad failure moment.

But she is a trooper, and while maybe a little hungry, we enjoyed a tour of all the museum, then what had to be the favorite was the scavenger hunt.   Ruby takes these things seriously, and her and her friends found every answer.   I don't know if any of the other kids even tried, but Ruby's paper was complete.   After the scavenger hunt, they got a chance to fly some simulators and even a VR simulator.  But that room was stuffed with hot sweaty 5th graders, and I had to step out for fresh air.  Ruby is also always thinking ahead, so she had a copy of the Aviation AHG badge requirements that we were able to knock out while at the museum.

And this was another last...a last field trip of elementary school.   Watching her with her friends, she is a natural leader like her mom, and I can't wait to see all she will do in junior high...oh wait, she tells me that is my old person way to say it, because we went to schools that had K-12 in one place...it is called Middle School.
