Our second morning began at the Hotel with the beforementioned process of getting to the breakfast area. Not as good on this morning, but always nice when it is free. I did get Magan her oatmeal and Coffee (2 splendas and creamer her text read) to the room, where my coffee princess took one drink and sent me back because it had french vanilla creamer, which she did not want. But at least she liked the oatmeal.
Our road craziness continued as we got into a complete stand still just this side of Tennessee, where we sat motionless in park for 25 minutes. I sat and kicked myself for not looking earlier for a path around. Waze saw it, and I saw that waze changed my route, but about 20 minutes before the traffic, waze reverted and said to stay on I65. I should have gotten Magan to check on it, but she was asleep, and sometimes that is better. Then the traffic started rolling, and no lie, we were back up to 65 within about 5 miles. It was the craziest thing I have seen, like someone at the front just let the flag drop and all just off to the races.
So we made it to the Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville only about 1 hour later than expected, and I found parking somewhat close by. I hate city traffic, and was just thankful to find parking. It was about a block away, but all downhill, so MawMaw had no issues with it. Magan and I had visited this museum probably 10 years before, but it was a cool experience again.
There was a neat story about a Wanda Jackson singing almost a rock and roll country, then the article stating that it was Elvis that suggested it. They had a cool exhibit of how California country slowly made its way across the country. I was hooked on some songwriter videos, and since this trip have been reading a book on the stories behind a lot of these country hits. We saw an Elvis car that had a tv and an ice maker in the back, and a Dixie Chick outfit fashioned with safety pins. I really don't know why they had the car from smokey and the bandit, but Davis liked it.
All the kids and MawMaw had fun with a computer game where you could dress your country singer up with different clothes and accessories. But everytime I went past MawMaws screen, her cowboy didn't have any pants on. I am not saying anything, and will just leave it at that. We took some pictures with clothing of famous country stars as good tourist should do. The display for Dolly Partons green dress below said "Please do not tap on the glass". This is because her dress kept tipping forward and banging into the glass due to it being top heavy. And both Davis and I both had to send pictures of Reba to Aunt Katie.
In the big hall of fame room, MawMaw found another random stranger to chat with while we walked around. I don't think MawMaw knows any strangers, haha, but on this trip we often found her chatting with different folks. Belle and I found a painting we liked in that room. And outside of that room was a waterway that had lots of coins in it, many from different countries. I kept telling the kids they better not be digging any money out of there.
Before we left we stopped and had a really good burger at Barlines, a restaurant in the same building as the Hall of Fame. At the end of our meal, they had some live music. But I am glad we got a good meal, because our walk back to the car was uphill. I also got a good test of my bad ears when Davis told me "Look at that Chinese mural" on the streets of Nashville. I got frustrated at him for making fun of me, because apparently, he said "Look at the Titans mural". So I am catching things, but need some reference to make the consonants make sense. We had a bicycle bar pass us on the street, then a bus with a dance club on it, and one picture below shows MawMaw looking at them like they were crazy...and she was right. The big hill back to the car was definately a challenge for all of us, but especially MawMaw. But she used me to hold on to, and handled it like a champ.
And, as is tradition on MawMaw road trips, we stopped at a Buccees, to see the pure craziness on a Friday afternoon. As luck would have it, we even got to see Buccee with the whole crew. And our final attraction was the Buccee car wash, where again, we had a truck that started backing up in the line to the wash and all were almost getting hit. Crazy driving. Then after another stand still showed up on waze shortly after Nashville, I took a detour, then started making my own detours letting the sun be my guide going far west, then south, where we finally made it back to the interstate where all flowed all the way back to MawMaw's house, then back home to Chelsea. It was an adventure, and I am sure I missed alot of the stories, but hopefully the pictures below will remind us of all the other fun times on this trip. I did have to share a picture of the Buccees Warmie that Ruby got, and the strange practice of heating our toys in the microwave. As she is one of the continual readers of this blog, I will tell her once again from all of us...We love you MawMaw. And I know what her response will be because I have heard it so many times before..."I love you more".
