A Proposal to Remember...She said "Yes"!

"I said “yes” to my best friend. I can’t wait to marry you, Sam Junkin!!" and thus was the response from Noel Montgomery to our eldest Sam, son of Scott, son of Tim. It was a little surprising that it would happen this quickly, but we knew this day was coming for many months. I had warned him of how horrible this day could be if you did not plan it, nor really even think about it, but instead just fit it into a Sunday morning. In retrospect, the proposal day was one of the worst days I remember during our dating. So with that in mind, and shared many times with the boys, he pulled in a better parent to help him with some planning and coordination.

He let me into the ring selection process, and I think a little Ruby happened to see the screen one night, or perhaps overheard the word "ring", but she was just a little more bubbly after that moment. Magan and I both shared many conversations on this couple, and I think behind the scenes with the Montgomery's have been looking forward to this day. There was some concern with them still being in school, but with my experience with Gary many moons before, I knew that I had no push back on a kid with a spreadsheet.

And I know both me and Magan pray often for these kids. We have been blessed to have 4 that we have tried to raise as good people that want to help other people. Kids that love God, and want to help other people know about him. Kids that recognize the wisdom in the older ones around them, look them in the eyes when they speak, and enjoy the conversations with any around them. But for those kids, we want them to find a mate that has similar qualities, and will be a mate for life, helping them in the difficulties of this life. And I can not imagine a better person than our dear sweet Noel.

We had been pulling for them since they first starting dating, but I know it hit me on a long long day that began with both of them in a car crash in Atlanta. And of course, I was worried about Sam, but there was panic for our sweet Noel also. Both were fine, but I could tell when I picked them up that she was clearly still a bit shaken. And I watched them together smile and laugh and hold hands. And I just had to tell her how much we loved her on that day...perhaps getting teary eyed in an Arby's in Bremen, GA was not the best place, but it was when I knew that if anything ever happened to break up this relationship, I would still want to keep up with this wonderful girl we now adore.

Sam planned the day and the location, but also made sure Magan was there for pictures and lydia johnson for video at the top of oak mountain. I think this was the one year celebration of their first actual date, and Sam took her all around birmingham, and out to eat, then later up to the Oak Mountain lookout near Peavine Falls. He was texting with Magan/Lydia, and after some miscommunication, I think Sam and Noel came up early so that Magan and Lydia had to run into the woods. Noel later said that she started thinking this may be the day when best friend and future mother in law randomly run into woods near where boyfriend is taking you at sunset on a mountain overlook.

After the big question, and lots of screaming and hugs, there is a video of them calling Anabelle and Ruby, and Noel will probably always remember them giving her nothing. Us Junkins are calm and cool...and obviously we kinda had some insight on this day coming. But they have learned to ham it up next time and scream like they are super excited. I think all the parents were contacted, but I was in Georgia this week, and never got a call. haha...like I wasn't watching it all on life 360 with my own video of what I thought was happening. Noel...if you ever read this, I was super excited telling everyone at work about what was going down that evening.

And now we just wait around till June...excited to see what is next for these kids. I really can't even begin to imagine the adventures that these two will have together. Their first big one will be a trip to Alaska planned for the honeymoon. It is kind of weird thinking about having a daughter in law, but at the same time, she already just fits so well into our family. I am sure I will find ways to spoil her just like my own girls.
