Back to School Days

It is hard to believe that these Back to School pictures on the front porch are just two kids now.   Ruby is now in the 6th grade and riding the high school bus with Belle, who is now a sophomore in high school.  The girls were looking super cute for their first day, and mom took all the normal pics, even the ones the boys refer to as the "butt picture".   It seems like I am usually traveling this first week, but I was here, so I got to sit outside and chat with them a little bit before they got on the bus.   Magan always gets a video of the kids talking about their first day of school, so I am sure those are out there if you ever want to find them.

The first weeks of school included a return to High School Football, so since Davis is not here, I get to be on drop off duty, and will be leaving in about 2 hours to drop off Belle at the game tonight.   The first game I think was either Neon night, or Construction Worker support night...but I was glad I still had a vest from some Parking Crew events.   And Ruby is also trying to get to the middle school games with her friend Taylor Grace, who is also on the cheerleading squad.   She has picked up on a couple of cheers, and spelling just as good as those other girls.

The next week included a pajama day for Belle, and I am sure next month I may be able to share the Pirate she was today.   Ruby had her first science project to put together a model of a cotton gin.  Invented by Eli Whitney, and at the age of 45, I am realizing that he was a white guy.   I could have swore I learned that fact in February a long time ago.  But she actually asked me to make it out of wood.   I looked at her like she was crazy, and she may remember getting upset at my lack of help, but really...me building something out of wood.   What in the world?   That is almost always a mistake.   Instead I did make the suggestion of the cardboard box, then the round sticks to go through the box.   That is where my creativity left scene, and Mom stepped in to help with other ideas.   Ruby glue gunned everything else together, and will maybe remember a burn on her hand from some loose glue.   But I thought it turned out very nice, and even had some cool lights inside of it.

Back to school, Back to school, to prove to dad that I'm not a fool.   I 've got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight.   Back to School!
