Mentor Games

Our mentor year ends with the Mentor Games, and our current reigning champion, Grant Dabbs, had me as a mentor, so I told him not to get to excited for a repeat.   I planned all the games, but had to ask Magan and Amanda Ray to help facilitate since I was an actual player this year.   The Kolb family has continued to host this event, and they have a great place to spread out.   And this was a high turnout, as everyone one of our mentees was able to attend.   So we had 12 teams competing this year for the prize of the Bowling Pin.   Ruby came with me to help grab a ton of pizzas, and she and Claire helped judge many of the events.

Our mentor games included a Mentor/Mentee match game, where we answered questions together, and tried to see how many of the answers matched.  There are a couple of mentors that are really loud and vocal, and seem to challenge every question, but I thought Magan and Amanda did amazing with these questions.   They were fun, and challenged us all to think about our partner a bit.   I think Sarah Beth and Staci Kolb had 12 of 15 correct answers.   Grant and I had 9, so I think we did well to start off the night.

We also played a game of WAR with playing cards, which seemed easy in my head, but was difficult to explain and will probably not make next years games.   It was a quick game, and part of my plan to make these games a little more random.   There was also a Marshmallow catapult launch that seemed to keep most folks together, and fun to laugh at marshmallows being launched sometimes backwards.   We had a dice game which will be repeated as it is pretty fun to play (Even tho on this day was made super stressful by the aforementioned loud people).   A count the dominoes jar, which was funny because the night before as Ruby was making it for Magan, she asked me "Do you think 151 dots is enough for this jar?"   I said "Ruby, you know I am one of the guessers, right?".   She got a big surprised look, laughed and said "Ahhh, I guess will will do this again at the kitchen table".

Our final event was a bible drill competition where Terry Francis won for the adults, and Jamison Francis won for the youth.   I felt bad for Anabelle and Phyllis because they came in 4th place in almost every event.   4th place got 0 points, so they almost got points almost ever time.   But in the end, we had a new winner, and the video of this announcement was great and loud because of the screaming.   Staci Kolb and Sarah Beth Bailey were the first female champions of our Mentor Games.   Terry and Cohen Dean placed 2nd, and Me and Grant Dabbs placed third.   Staci and Sarah Beth did the traditional "We are the Champions" with a music maker. Then everyone slowly left for the next day at school.

Always a fun event, and now we are back into the selection process for the 2025-2026 year.   So I guess we will see how things shake out.   Anabelle has had a great time with Phyllis, and Davis with Chris Baker.   I had a couple of outings with Grant, but wish I could have had more.
