Carowinds was not part of the plan, but the weather was working out well, and my meeting was over at 9:30 AM, so we made a stop on the way to Asheville. Knowing this would push us late getting into Asheville, we decided we had to leave Carowinds by 6...so of course we left by 7:30 PM. :) But this easily became the kids favorite part of the whole trip...because it is a ROLLER COASTER park.
Sam and I rode the bigger rides, and it was fun getting to ride with him. We rode "The Fury" which is the 4th largest in the US...drop of 320 feet @ 81 degrees...pretty awesome. We also rode "Nighthawk" which is very similar to "Superman" at Six Flags. Maybe Sam and I can remember the mean old lady in line and us breaking in front of her did not make her very happy.
The rest of the roller coasters Davis and Belle joined us on. But Davis is crazy about what he will and will not ride. We rode ones with loops and drops...Davis loved it...but backwards loops...no way. Then we rode the pirate ship that went for a complete loop...Dave would have none of it...but the "Screamweaver" that spun upside down super fast and round and round...he was the only one that would ride it. We did find a few that would not give Magan a heart attack, so she rode those. Now Belle, she will ride anything she is tall enough for...and loving each one...I thought she just has no fear in this stuff, but loved when riding the upside down pirate ship, before we started, she reached over and asked "Can you hold my hand on this one?". Of course!
Ruby was a trooper walking from roller coaster to roller coaster wanting to ride, but just too small. Then we made it to Snoopy Land, and she was in heaven. She rode all of these rides and loved the characters. Her favorite was driving the boat...and she drove it for Davis, and Mom, and Dad. But then I put her on the mini roller coaster "Lucy's Cabbies", and that was a bad idea. We rode once, and the guy running the ride was going to let everyone ride again... "Does everyone want to ride again?" I quickly said NO, and he let us out. But Davis and Belle rode MANY more times. Ruby's favorite word in the snoopy ride for most of the other rides was "Again!" And she loved showing Linus that she had a blankie too.
With a late start we headed to Asheville. A rainy night, and crazy climb at night over what we found at the top was the Easter Continental Divide, but finally came down to our hotel...and found yet another one with just two double beds. At least the kids had this one down by this time.
