Hopping through another March

Wow, lots of blogs this month, and April looks even crazier.   Oh well, let's get started.   I will begin with the first picture, and a fun visit with James Spann.   We see him every once and awhile because he attends church where the girls have their AHG meetings in Mt. Laurel.   But on this day, he was upstairs where they normally meet making sure his class was ready for some kids, and decided to have some fun with our group of girls.   Magan said he is a pro with these kids, and I am sure has had plenty of experience.   He pulled out a fake microphone and started interviewing the girls, tripping Anabelle up with "How old are you"?   Ruby said he asked all how old they were, but she said he had a whole conversation with Anabelle.   Belle, your mom has the video somewhere.

On a trip up to Cullman, we stopped in Hanceville to have lunch with MawMaw.   Luna's BBQ was really good, but completely empty, so we sat down and ordered.   At that point, a mass of girls surrounded us and sat in all the tables all around us.  Then it just felt so strange because we had been seeing these girls and their coach all over facebook for the last few weeks.   It was the Good Hope state champion girl's basketball team and the cheerleaders.   And also strange as we knew so many of their parents, but super awkward to say that...altho Magan did do this to Chubby's daughter.  I could not figure out a good way to introduce Sam to Alan's daughter.   MawMaw was able to chat with the coach for a minute and with Player of the Year Ivey Maddox, but I didn't even mention the time I busted a three between her dad Jody and Kevin Byrd in practice from Steph Curry distance at the top of the arc...but I am sure they remember that day well also.

Davis' trip to the regional Skills USA competition almost did not happen.   He set like 3 alarms to wake himself up at 5AM to be in Columbiana to catch the bus taking them to Wallace State in Cullman.   But when I got up for work at 5:45, he was still in bed deep asleep.   After some scrambling around and realizing he had already missed the bus, he got permission to drive himself up to the event.   He is at CTEC for automotive maintenance, but on this day, his teacher had signed him up for the Customer Service competition, where you had to memorize some information about a fictional business, and then actually respond to customers (judges) visiting that business.   Davis said the others were talking about their experience at Publix and Fast Food, then looked at Davis, and he said "I just watched some YouTube videos".   And how did he do?  He got first place, helping the judges with all of their questions about the "Skills USA Museum".   hahaha.   And now he gets to go to Mobile in April to the state competition.

Sam came home for his Spring Break, but the rest of the kids were in school, so he just rested, which is probably what he needs most.   Unfortunately, his visit has also uncovered that he is allergic to the cat, so he started sleeping downstairs after the first 3 days of runny nose.   He is an awesome kid though and made plans with his little sister to visit and eat lunch with her on crispito day.   He reminds me alot of myself in many ways, but on these days, more like the super kind mom of his.   He made me laugh today when I realized he had not spent any money while at college, I told him "Sam, you have the card, I am fine if you treat yourself periodically".   He replied "I do, I spend about $20 each month."   Dear me.

Ruby had her choir performance in Columbiana where she was able to be out of school to practice all day for a show that night.   It was a crazy busy day, but I was the one to pick her up and we had to go to Walmart before the big performance.   But we had fun, and she got both a giant ball that she wanted and Subway that she wanted.   Then we sped back to the performance, where it was really good.   My favorite song was Chumbara, but I think her and Olivia's was "Sounds of the Rain" where they made the noises of the rain with their hands.   It was pretty cool.   After the performance, her and Magan left me to see Dessert Cabaret (high school kids talent show) at the high school.

And the olds and ends...Color Run at Forest Oaks...Sam made the poster for Skills USA...a late JimNNicks celebration of Ruby's marathon run (they used to give us a free kids meal, but no more)...Davis checks out UAB...Davis gets a series of shots for the allergy test...Davis asks Addison to the prom...Dune 2 was amazing on the Big D...Annual Pine Straw fundraiser for the Boy Scouts...Landry and Laura Lyle goodbye celebration at church...AHG meetings...Dessert Cabaret...CTEC boston butt and ribs sale...Nanny breaks a foot...Visit to see Sam on Spring Break...Like Mom, Like daughter spills on the shirt...hit and run dent on the new van...Mom's new can opener (Since her thumb is now not working...she cracked up when she saw the old lady on the front of the can opener...as that is her now)

Oh wait, I forgot about the finger in the cake.   At the Lyle's going away party, as we were cleaning up, I grabbed the cake to place it back in the box.   Well, there was a lip at the bottom of the cake holder, and I was having a hard time getting my fingers on the bottom of the cake to pick it up.   Then one finger slipped and went over 2 knuckles deep into the cake.   I looked around to make sure no one had seen, then placed the cake into the box.   Later when Landry was taking the cake to his car, I admitted that he would find a finger hole in the cake, and to just cut around it.   That was when him and Sam just busted laughing.   Landry said that he and a whole group of the guys had watched the whole thing.   They saw me with the finger slip, they watched me look to make sure no one saw then place into the box.   So they kept laughing not so much at my finger slip, but more for the guilty look I quickly hid when I thought I got away with it.
