I think we have found a fun place to hang out before the game on Super Bowl Sunday, as when I asked the Youth Group, they all agreed to go back to BumperNets this year. And while this month has had its share of sickness, many of our Jr/Sr high were unable to be at the event, but instead we got to invite the rising 6th graders. So, of course, Ruby was excited to join with all the big kids for her first Youth event.
After eating in the food court, and some shopping at random stores, we all met up at BumperNets for 1.5 hours of unlimited games. My memories include David Holley challenging me to Air Hockey, where he lost, then to ping pong, where we all knew he would lose. But it was fun, and both were close games. Cohen Dean has some super basketball shooting skills, and even tho Magan tried, he beat her every time. Anabelle was practicing her new driving skills on MarioKart everytime I walked over to that room. I can't remember seeing Ruby much, as everyone just scattered and stayed busy. I did get one of the high scores on the "Willy Wonka" pinball machine, and got my picture taken. Which I thought was really cool, till Dave Holley also got a high score right behind me, so I am thinking it does not take much to get on the board.
After the games, we divided up for a Cindy's cinnamon roll group, and a Great American cookie group, and all met up at Auntie Annie's, which is where I saved my money for some pretzels. Then we all got back in the convoy to head back to Chelsea. I did the normal Domino's run for some pizza while everyone else headed over to the Kolb's for the Super Bowl watch party.
The Kolbs are always great to host this event, and have an amazing place to share with the kids. Adults typically stay upstairs, while the kids were downstairs. This was the year of the Alternate Half-Time Show put on by "Turning Point USA" as a MAGA option to the Bad Bunny official show. So much drama in the world today, and a host of people mad that songs would be sung in spanish. There was some concern about Bad Bunny being in drag and promoting some issues that we did not want to watch at the Kolb house, so we elected to watch the "Turning Point" show. I did express that Kid Rock might not be the best alternative, as there was a high potential he would be singing about hoes and topless dancers, but at least it would be in English. In hindsight, neither show was really that entertaining to me, but in fairness, the Bad Bunny show seemed fine with just the normal amount of booty shaking dancers typical of other halftime shows.
There was a football game also on that evening, but no one will ever remember it, unless you lived in Seattle. The Seahawks beat the Patriots in a series of field goals, which is probably very exciting for the soccer community, but not so much for the true Americans. Somewhere in the third quarter, we broke for a game Staci Kolb had where the kids divided in teams to solve scrambled books of the bible. It was another fun night, and I love each opportunity we have to pull these kids together for just a little while.
