Davis' Graduation

I feel like I may have to change the name of this blog to the Davis Blog, but haha, I am sure that May of 2023 also was heavy with Sam.    Davis graduated in the top 10% of a +300 graduating class with a GPA greater than 4.0.   Which also meant that he got more chords that most folks, stood on the front row of his graduating class, and after his name was called, we all had to wait through another 300 names to be called.   Magan had all of the notes to where she wanted to be for Davis' ceremony, since we were on the wrong side with Sam.   So we were there early, and we got to the doors early, but then Magan decided to chat with the other Mommas, and not stay focused on getting the seat she wanted.   It was a mad dash when the doors were opened 1 hour early as parents ran to get the closest seats to see their babies graduate.   And even more difficult was the saving of 10 seats by many of these families.   Luckily we found a grouping of 7 on on side of a row with 3 on another side, so Granny, Granddaddy, and MawMaw could get one side, while we took the other 7.   We were proud that Lisa made it and did not get lost this year.

I really love these pictures of Davis and Ruby.   They got most of the attention this year, with one graduating from High School, and the other from Elementary School.   And I have really seen their relationship grow more this year, and it saddens me as I write to think once again of another one moving out soon.   Maybe just an oldest and youngest thing, but Sam and Ruby have always been buds, and Ruby sometimes nagged on Davis with her friendship with Sam.   Then I reminded her as this school year began that we only had one year left with Davis.   After her prayers that night, those little eyes welled up with some tears as she recognized also that our time with our Dave was short.   I had some similar talks with Davis, as I think he would agree, is often quick to get irritated, and I think he also knew he could improve.   And while they still have their tiffs periodically (typically dealing with who has dish duty for that night), I have loved watching his love for both sisters grow this year.

Davis was happy he got to sit with his good friend Madison through the ceremony.   I am sure he will miss his awesome group of "girlfriends", but they already have plans to gather periodically on the weekends, and since they are girls, I am sure that will happen.   As for the dudes, Rowan will be his roommate at Bama, Logan is right down the hallway from them, and only Ryan will be at Auburn.   But knowing this group of guys, they will probably plan a beach trip or another mountains trip sometime.

After the ceremony, we all went to Rodney Scott BBQ trying to get closer to Granddad's work, but he was short handed, and could not join us.   The service and BBQ here was amazing, but the sauce was not my favorite.   They gave us all free drinks, which was good, as I feel like my bill deserved free drinks.   We all talked about the wreck on lakeshore we just barely made it around before BBQ.  And I know there was a lot of laughter and good conversation, but I just don't remember it writing this later.   Everything just seems a bit like a dream.   I know I was there, I remember bits and pieces, but everything just moves a little too fast on a day like this.   As Ferris Bueller said "Life moves pretty fast.   If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
