Sam to the Rescue!

This morning I was cooking something that required I crush my pretzels. Well, Davis was asleep so I left Sam in the kitchen eating breakfast and went to my room to pound on the pretzels (since it is the room farthest from Davis' room). A few seconds after I started pounding I heard Sam running to my room and when I looked to see him he was standing in the doorway in full battle stance with his lightsaber, ready to protect mom from whatever was making that sound. The look on his face was fear, but he was ready for battle. I still have to chuckle writing this and remembering that little face. I also get teared up a little knowing that he would run in to help mom even when he was scared.

Sometimes the Puke Just Has To Wait

Wow! Things just got a little crazy around here. The boys and I went out to run errands this morning and got home just in time for naps. I put both boys down at the same time, only to hear Davis wake up about 30min. later. This is unusual b/c he usually sleeps 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. for his nap. I got him up and let him play planning to put him back down in a few hours. After playing for about 30 min. the phone rang and it was Scott telling us to watch the weather b/c some storms were blowing through. Before I hung up the phone Davis began puking more than he ever has and I am panicking (I think he just ate to much at lunch). I hang up the phone and took his clothes off and held him on my chestto sooth him. Then I called my mom. Mind you the puke is still on the floor. As I am asking advice on what to do for Davis and Scott beeps in to check on Daivis. I get off the phone with both parties and find that Davis has fallen asleep on my chest. I went and laid him in bed. Still I haven't turned on the weather. I get the cleaning supplies for the puke and then Scott calls yet again to let me know that he is having to be relocated to a middle room for safety. I drop everything and I grab a candle with matches and wake both of my sleeping babies to go down to the basement for safety. As soon as I close the door to our safest room, the phone rings. This time it is Jeanette Gerald from church and she is wondering whether or not services have been cancelled. Thru discussion and a few more calls we decide that they are and that I need to help call the congregation to let them know. Remember the floor has not been cleaned and Davis is crying b/c he just wants to go to bed. Finally, Scott calls and lets me know that he is headed home before the second batch of storms come thru and I head up to put Davis in bed and to finally clean the rug.

Not in the Job Description

Circa February '08

At the Brookwood Mall, I was able to give Magan a break and walk the boys around so she could have some time to shop alone. I enjoy these times with the boys, because we get to enjoy the stores I like together (Toys and Books). But on this particular occasion, Sam and Davis were working together to see just how good ole Dad was today. Almost immediately after Magan had left me…alone…I realized that both of my dear children had soiled their diapers. But that is OK, I was ready, the diaper bag was fully stuffed with the required items, and I made my way to the family bathroom near the food court that I had spotted a few months back.

After banging the stroller thru the bathroom door that I held open for myself, I locked us in the restroom to begin the procedure. The koala bear table folded down nicely and felt secure, so I unfastened Davis and placed him upon the table. I like to be fully prepared so I carefully laid out my replacement diaper, wipees, and of course Beaudrouxs Butt Paste. The process began rather nicely as I cleaned Davis off, but then I heard the toilet flush behind me, and turned to see Sam pressing the button. This was OK until he thought he would start playing with the lid. AGHHH, Yuk…after convincing him that that was gross and he shouldn’t do that, I began placing the new diaper on Davis. The diaper is almost second nature to me by now, but the application of the Butt Paste can be tricky, especially when you are at the very last bit, and must use a two handed squeeze technique to get any out.

When finally I was able to get some out onto my forefinger for proper application, I heard the faucet come on very loudly, and as I turned to see Sam stretching to wash his hands, Davis kicked his little feet and knocked my little glob of Beauxdrouxs onto the floor. As my perspiration began kicking in overdrive, I was finally able to manage one last glob, slap that diaper on Davis and fasten him in. I then quickly changed Sam, washed his hands several times, and attempted to blow dry the wet spots on his shirt from the earlier faucet spray.

There was a certain amount of pride I felt that day as I left the bathroom, banging the stroller several times on the way out. It was not very efficient, not very clean, but I did get the job done, and I felt the stares as I left that family restroom, and I knew what they were thinking…There goes a Super Dad.

Let's Get Started

Posted by Magan
Here goes! I have been trying to write in baby books for two years and I have been defeated for two years, so I'm going to try this out.
I just read my friend Jennifer's post about choosing your battles especially with clothes, so I want to write about Sam. I never thought a boy would be so opinionated about his clothes, but when you are talking about becoming a super hero it is serious business. He would wear his pjs all day every day if he could. Every now and then I let him wear his shirt under a light jacket and the other day he wore it like that to go outside and help his dad. Scott said he noticed Sam standing behind him and as serious as he could be he unzipped his jacket. Scott said, "You Spiderman?" He smiled and zipped it back up then went on playing. He had to make sure that Scott hadn't forgot that underneath that coat was the real Spiderman. Scott told me that dress clothes are torture to a little boy who wants to be big and strong like his dad, that is hard for me to accept b/c he is only 2 :) I am trying to let him grow up.
Easter Candy
We had two boys on Easter morning packed full of sugar so Scott put the baskets up on the counter and I went to get dressed. Scott walked past Sam's room to go to Davis' and Sam slammed his door and locked it. When he opened it he had his mouth open grinning with chocolate around his lips and two hand fulls of jellybeans. Needless to say the baskets weren't high enough.
Then the next day I noticed Sam walking by with a step stool hid behind his back, guess where he was headed!

Davis is trying to say a lot of things, his first word was mommmmmma then Da Da and then BITE. That boy loves to eat! He isn't walking yet, but he is pulling up and rolling all over. I got his walker out and let him start playing in it upstairs. Well, one of his favorite things to eat is paper I am constantly watching for him to find some. If he gets quiet that is probably what he is doing. Anyway, the other day he was in his walker and he walked past a bag of garbage I had just emptied and he saw a rolled up diaper on top. I saw him look in smile, grab the diaper, then turn and run from Scott in his walker. It was the first time he was able to get away, I loved it! The picture is of him attempting to crawl, he gives up pretty quickly and just hugs on his blue (blanket.

Riding on Thomas and Bugs

Posted by Scott
Day out with Thomas - 3/29/08
The weatherman predicted a cold and rainy day, and the weatherman was wrong. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time. We got to share our day with Misti, Ashton, Miranda, Jasper, and Jude. The train ride was a blast, woah woah woah, but they also had many activities for the boys (putt-putt, train tables, the big inflatable pits of bacteria and germs that children can bounce in, etc...). Sam liked listening to the live music, just didn't want to be to near the scary looking guitar man that might look at him. Davis just sat back with us and ate. But both Sam and Davis liked the balloons Momma waited in line 30 minutes for...which is about the amount of time that the balloons lasted.

Sam and Davis get their first car - 3/31/08
Well the boys were finally old enough to get out on their own, we found an old junker VW Beetle for them to get to the new fort and back. Not exactly a two-seater, so Davis ends up screaming a lot, and Sam is not a very good driver so we do a lot of running around stopping him from going off of the hills. But if you can ever get Sam going in a circle, he just chills out, leans back, and sips on his juice.

Bad Medicine

Well, we finally got the kid's playset put together, and last Friday morning Sam was "helping" me put the finishing touches on it. Both of us were suffering from the severe amounts of pollen in the air, constantly wiping our noses. But I felt bad for Sam, and thought he had not taken his medicine that morning. I told him to go inside and tell his mama to give him his nose medicine. A few moments later, he comes back out and is coughing and gagging. Immediately panicked, I jumped down from the fort and found a white substance all over his mouth. He told me he had gotten his medicine...so I quickly ran with him inside and set him down and told him to show me what medicine he took. He walked me straight to the Hydrocortosone cream we sometimes use as "medicine" for other sores. So note to others...don't tell 2 1/2 year old to get his own medicine, and a mouthful of 1% Hydrocortosone cream is OK per the Poison Control Center.

Halloween 2007

This was our second year to take the boys to the “Boo at the Zoo”, we really enjoy going to the zoo, and this was a fun trip where we could dress the boys up. Sam went as Buzz Lightyear, and Davis as Nemo.
Sam loves the zoo and was immediately excited when we got there. They had several booths where you could go up and get candy. Sam was so big going up to the tables where several much bigger kids were and saying “Chickacheet”. The first booth had a pirate that Sam was not to sure of, he would not even look at the guy.

Davis was the only Nemo there and got a lot of attention, cause he is so cute and he’s got them big ole cheeks. We got to pet the snake, lizard, fox, and barn animals and had a good time.
Sam walked ahead of us to see the snake building, and kept looking for the turtles that are usually right outside. But then he turned to us and said “Turtle Night Night mama dada Turtle Night Night mama dada”

And we also had a fun trunk or treat with our Church family that Sunday night. I dressed up as Woody, and Magan was Bo Peep. Sam saw me dressed up and got a big smile as he ran out to see me. He immediately wanted my gun then we chased down Zurg and defeated him mightily.
We had a good time, and Marcus has now started Dating Brooke. We don’t know how things are going to work out, but my prediction is a wedding in 2009. They are cute together, and it makes me remember all the fun first times with Magan. Magan is getting more and more beautiful every day, and she is the greatest mother/wife/friend I could have ever asked for.

Sam is pee pee ing in the potty and getting stickers now.
Davis is eating anything you put in front of him.
I love bathtime with the boys. Mom lets me handle them most nights, so I look forward to trying to make them laugh.
