One last trip to Seqouyah (Davis' Last Boy Scout Summer Camp)

So this was Davis' last chance at a Boy Scout Summer Camp as he ages out next February.   He was excited to go, and with one good buddy from his age group, Matthew Kirby, also going, he was excited for this last adventure.   Davis and Matthew got their own tents (usually you have to share at summer camp) for the week, and upon arrival at camp, they began building the entry way into the Troop 354 area, and did a great job lashing the bamboo together.   They said it was not even close with the other troops, and they easily won the 1st prize on gate presentation.

Davis said that his schedule was a pain, as he had canoeing at the water front as his first class, then had to travel across camp (wet) for archery, then back across camp back to the water front for small boat sailing, then a short walk to a building for archeology to finish the day.   He now has all Eagle Badge requirements complete, and these badges will help him earn two additional Eagle Palms at the ceremony.

The week went well, with ZERO new scouts having to call their moms to come get them.   And since it was the last camp, Magan and the rest of the bunch (Dad was in Minneapolis) met him on Wednesday at the family night.   Sam immediately was impressed at the gate presentation, and jumped up on the poles to test them out, and immediately broke it down.   Yeah, Davis, the other scouts, and the Scoutmaster were not really happy with their old eagle scout.   Davis did tho later cut the broken piece and brought it to Sam after camp as a souvenir.   That night, since Magan drove over with the Rumseys, they got stuck at the Order of the Arrow ceremony (I warned to leave before this) so it took them awhile to wait for Luke Rumsey to make it thru that ceremoney, and Sam and Davis (both members) were sucked into the ceremony also.

The only other memories Davis shared was of Jason Kirby (scoutmaster) slicing his finger while whittling a wooden golf club (scoutmaster play a round with balls and clubs made by them each year), and had to visit the local emergency room for 3 stitches.   Matthew Kirby left sick on Wednesday.  And on the last night, Davis and some buddies snuck off on a night hike, which passed directly by the staff hut, and had some close calls on being heard, but made it back without getting in trouble.   Davis also said that it got so cool on some nights, he even turned off the fan...which is rare at summer camp...especially for Davis.  I am glad he made it one last round.   He has been a great leader for the troop.   Oh, and the shirt...he found a cub scout shirt from the first year he visited seqouyah, in what was apparently the same size when he first visited seqouyah...and he just was Davis.   There were more pictures in that shirt, but I will spare him future embarrassment.
