After a long night with the Sponsored Kids the night before, everyone must have been pooped, as I think all slept in on this morning a little later than usual. We did have some fun times with the day care kids with some extra time this morning, letting some of the rain pass by before we headed over to Borro school. It is always a treat getting to wave and hug Anderson and Briggeth as they come in on these mornings.
On our way to Borro, Jonathan Bailey drove one truck, which is impressive, as I would NEVER drive in Honduras. But he did great, or at least I think he did, I rode in the back of Donny's truck. And we stopped to pick up two little kids walking to school, and it just happened to be Lillian and Jeffry from the night before.
At the school, our skit went well, and Sonja let me take over the initial talking to the kids to see if they were ready for our skit. On this morning, after a scream of "Hola Ninos" and the response "Hola", I got a selfie with the big group behind me. "Listo para Drama"... "Es una historia de la biblia llamada El Hijo Prodigo"...Is everyone READY? SI came the response.
After our skit, the kids did some songs for us, one of them where they sang "Have you Ever Seen Rain" by CCR, and after a nudging by Dana, Brandon and I went up and waved our hands and sang with them. I love the principal here, Ana, she is always very kind and tries her best to speak some English with us. I got to do some of the Bible Drill here, and had a lot of fun when one of the teachers sat down and joined us in the game. I wish I had some extra, as I could have left her the bibles and I think she would have played with the kids.
While the kids were eating, I did my full artistic drawing and magic show for two rooms, and while the magic works better for the little ones, the jokes work better for the older ones, so I loved getting the smiles in both rooms. I met one of Lillian and Jeffrey's cousins there, he was a cutie named Farley, and later I learned that his mom and dad were one of the new couples married last year. Our last school for this year was the largest, and I think it went great. One of the older boys was really well behaved, and I ended up sneaking him some of my trinkets and toys because he was so nice. Later that night I found out it was Eduardo's son, I had not even recognized him, he had gotten so tall.
That afternoon was a time of rest. Maximo and Daisy told us that the event started at 6. So I asked what time we should be there, and the answer in true Honduras time was 6. So we stayed at the day care and rested. I think some went into town. Davis bought and let me try an Aloe Vera drink. I have a note in my book about not getting the truck keys from Jonathan that says "Never reach into a sleeping man's pants" which makes me laugh, but has no real back story.
And then it was time for the 1 year anniversary dinner for the couples married the previous year. Maximo and Daisy shared this idea with me at the end of last year, and I thought it would be fun. They did an excellent job decorating with the interns while we were at Borro that morning. So we were there at 6 and able to visit with all of the couples and their families as they arrived. I wish I had a picture, as Maxim and Eduardo were very proud of the agenda they had put together for this event. It was laid out with all the activities, a time identified for each activity, the logos of both of our churches displayed at the top. I then looked at where they had a welcome message, a prayer, two of the men leading some words, Brother Brandon saying some words, and then the Dinner at 6:45...but as they were proudly showing me this, I looked at my watch to see it was almost 6:40, and we had not even started. I asked them if we would eat dessert at medionoche (midnight). So they finally got moving.
I was so happy to see my friend Israel was better and at this event. I think we both kept coming up with excuses to come bother the other one with a question here or there. When the event began, Israel was one of the men that stood up to speak some wisdom to all these new couples...and he is a preacher, so it took awhile, the Hermano Jose spoke, and he also apparently had a lot of wisdom to share. Finally Brandon shared a funny story about him being the head of the home, but Ashley being the neck.
The meal was really good, a fancy catered place that served everyone individually, so it took quite a while with only 1 person handing out food. All the while, Savannah and Davis did an amazing job getting pictures printed for all the couples. We had small frames for each to take with them as well. But it was getting late and many of these families had a long way back home. So people started slowly making their way out. I think all had a great time tho. Israel let me take a picture with his hat so I could be the Hawaiian Cowboy. Then he and I struggled connecting to one another's WhatsApp accounts, and had to get his daughter to make it work. But since the trip, It has been great to connect with him a little.
The last memorable event was a super loud bang and crash at the front of the building. Always joking, I yelled out that it was Gabriel. But it was not him. The table holding all of those dishes had broken and dropped about 50 plates to the floor. Luckily, only 1 plate broke, and everything else was good. Everyone breathed in a sigh of relief, and at the end of the night, I caught Daisy with a DEEP BREATH of relief at the end of this night. That picture was a perfect ending. We also got one last picture with our campamento family at the church logo, and made our way back to the Daycare. Davis and Savannah worked on that night printing an extra copy of all of those pictures so that the church could have a photo album of this event.
