Mentors/Mentees at the Movies (Bonhoeffer)

The film "Bonhoeffer:  Pastor.  Spy.  Assassin" is a dramatic documentary about the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a young German pacifist and theologian who resisted the Nazi regime during World War II. The film portrays his imprisonment, his fight against the Third Reich, and his moral struggle to save millions of Jews from genocide.

I was first introduced to Deitrich Bonhoeffer by Maximo Enamorado in Honduras.   Maximo and I have broken english/spanish conversations about many various things, but I was super confused when I finally realized he wanted to know if I had read any of this German's books.   So upon returning to the states, I purchased "The Cost of Discipleship" and found it very good.

Then, when Angel Studios began production of this movie, I started seeing the previews, and thought this would be a good film to share with the kids from church.   And it worked well, we had many of the youth mentors there with us, and spread out 22 people amongst a pretty packed theater for this show on a Sunday afternoon.   Probably could have used a better editor to help it flow, but they had a lot of story to tell, and got it all out.   Overall, it was a good movie and a good story with a good message...albeit a little strange for an anabaptist preacher's involvement in trying to kill someone.

Afterwards, we went to Freddys with a few that remained.   It was a good time, and I got to spend a little extra time with my mentee this year Grant Dabbs.   Anabelle's mentor this year is Phyllis Hamilton, and Davis has Chris Baker.   Magan has the year off, Ruby is always our mascot, and Sam joined us since home for the holiday.
