Ending the Summer in Atlanta - Day 1...Hurricane Harbor

The kids are all sad that Sam will be leaving the house soon for college, but they are loving that Mom and Dad see all of these moments as "last family moments" so trying to have some last fun vacation together before college.   So with our Season passes to Six Flags, and some free hotel nights thanks to SoCo, we planned a to take a couple of days and enjoy being in Atlanta, without having to drive home each day.

On this first day, we packed some towels and a change of clothes, and went to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor on the backside of the coaster park.   But since we arrived at park opening of 11AM, and the waterpark did not open till 12PM, we got to ride the Georgia Cyclone first before heading to the water park.   And the timing worked out perfectly as we arrived at Hurricane Harbor just as it was opening.   And here was where I saved my big surprise for them.   I had rented one of the Cabanas for the day!   It was perfect, we had a table and 4 chairs, 2 loungers, a large area to store our bags and clothes, a cooler with 6 bottles of water waiting for us.

Magan would tell me later that she was not really looking forward to this, trying to find a place to stay in the shade all day, and the Cabana was the best.   She was able to just hang out here for most of the day....it had a nice fan also to keep things cool.   It was also gated from the rest of the park, and had its own entrance into the wave pool...yeah, I am going to seriously consider having a cabana every time we come back here.

After quickly finding that our feet would be baked on the concrete, me and Belle and Davis got some water shoes from the store here.   Only Ruby and Sam already had some.   This is hard, because I know the ones at Walmart are MUCH cheaper, and probably better quality than the six flags ones that fell apart by the end of the day.   But they still worked and kept our feet from frying.

HH has a really fun family slide that would hold 4 people.   It has a great drop, then sends you up a huge ramp slightly spinning you, and making you feel like you were going to flip.   I was lucky enough to be across from Magan on one of these rides and it was sooo funny to watch her drop backwards down the large dip, then her screams growing even louder when at the top of the ramp, she thought we were going to fall over.   I was later able to watch the same with Sam and Davis.   Pretty awesome ride.

HH also had three float slides, and while 2 were ok, the last one was for two people, and it sent you into a spinning bowl area that was really fun to go around and around before dropping into the water below.   Sam and Mom were the only ones to get it to go around the bowl 4 times before dropping.   Mostly 2 times, and Davis made it 3 times, but only Sam and Mom made it 4 times.

And lastly, besides the huge wavepool, HH had a giant play area, and it may look like it was just for kids, and it may have contained mostly kids, but it was seriously my favorite part.   It had the typically large bucket that periodically dumped an obscene amount of water smashing the people waiting below.   Me and Belle and Ruby hit is perfectly, getting completely soaked.   There were high fives and smiles and laughs that I still see as I write this blog.   It also had 3 different slides at different areas of the tower.   And we all agreed that the orange slide was the best, even though I was having a hard time breathing with the amount of water pouring on us at the beginning of that slide.   Everywhere you turned in this area was a waterfall or water spray.   On a hot day like this, this play area was great.

I think Mom liked the slides, but mostly she liked the rest and relaxation at the cabana.   She was there most of the times when we checked in.  HH is also fairly small, so easy to let the kids wander a bit and check in periodically.  Magan let me go wherever I wanted to play!  The water park is open from 12 to 6, so around 3, we took a break for lunch.   And get this, with the Cabana, the hostess takes your order and brings you the food directly to the cabana.   Am I writing the word cabana too much, we have never had one, and just surprised at how great it was.   The hostess would also get us our unlimited refills on out 3 (Thanks Mark) season pass cups.   And the lunch was included in the price of the cabana.   There was an extra cost over our free entry passes, but wow, it certainly made this the best day of our trip.

After changing clothes (one of us going commando due to lost undies somewhere in the park...I will not name names to see if anyone remembers), some pressure from Security to start moving towards the exit, and some final pictures with the HH shark eating us, we headed out back into six flags.   We made our way over to Goliath, where they had two cars going, which meant absolutely zero line.   Magan and Ruby skipped the coasters, but we all met up after the ride and on to the front of the park to share a funnel cake, yes, this time with ice cream.   Our fun day ended with a quick stop at Mellow Mushroom to pick up pizzas and take to our hotel that was a few blocks from the new Braves Stadium.  We had a great large room on the 14th floor looking out at the new area containing Truist Park and surrounding stores and restaurants.   Another fun vacation, what could go wrong...wait, there was no 13th floor on the elevator...that means...
