As our preacher Terry put it, we have been worshiping "outside the box", and outside of that big building that we usually refer to as church. But COVID has brought our living rooms together, and helped us recognize how much we take our church family for granted. So I think this first gathering at the Rawls house was the first time we assembled together with our family...just three families, but it was great to share a meal and some conversation.
That next Sunday we were finally able to worship at the church building, and me, Sam and Davis get to be the parking crew (due to our vast Alabama Game Day parking experience). That morning we also broke out our canopy that had been sitting in a box since Christmas, but it was wonderful for this morning and set the bar for quickest canopy to go up. The gathering went well, and Lords Supper thoughts were very well said, then Terry started preaching and the wind and clouds started to move and shift...then some little drops...umbrellas were passed out and shared...then those drops increased in number, and we realized leaving out car door open was not a good decision. The canopy was pushed back to provide covering into the car. Terry finished the lesson, and the mass exodus barely left the lot when the bottom dropped out. Wow, the parking crew was drenched, our new collection box was full of water, but we were able to worship together, and I think we wouldn't have changed a thing.
This service has continued in this manner this month of May...me and the boys now have our regular customers, and can almost put people in their same spot from week to week. We have enjoyed a new family of visitors. We have had super HOT days, and some nice windy days. And we are now moving to meeting at 9AM during June. All has been great, but weird to plan for lunch with friends after church...now that after church is 10 or 10:30. Maybe we will try Huddle House for our after church gathering. Oh, and as the pictures show below, it didn't take us long for our Grandma Barbara Baker to hug those kids up into her circle.
