Universal - Day 5 - A Despicable Me Day

The best thing about this day was that we woke up and Ruby was feeling better.  Still not 100%, but on medicine able to smile and enjoy the day.  We had another early morning at Universal Studios riding the Harry Potter ride twice, and enjoying Diagon Alley for awhile.  And guess what...we had another wizard this morning, as Ruby selected Hermione Granger's wand.  We had a plan to knock out the rest of Universal Studios then hop over to Islands of Adventure.  We had missed ET, one of the Simpsons rides, and since the girls were wearing the Despicable Me dresses, we wanted to meet Gru and the girls from the movie in a street dance party at Noon.

And everything went according to plan, as we rode all the rides we wanted to ride, got to see SpongeBob, and split up with the boys as they rode transformers again, while we rode Despicable Me again.  After that, we got ready for the dance party with the Despicable Me crew, and Ruby was chosen to dance with the girls from the movie.  It was cute, she was a little embarrassed, but she was having fun...and because she was selected to dance, she got in the front of the line to meet Gru...Yeah, then we all called for Gru to come down out of the ship, and we realized he was stuck, and the dance party immediately shut down and sorry, we have to leave...and gone...as was our original plan.

So we improvised and went to see the animal show that we had missed and were planning to skip...but it was pretty fun.  And I volunteered to help out in the show and was selected to catch a bird on my arm as it grabbed a 10 dollar bill from me, then later flew the 10 dollar bill back to my arm.  I guess it helps to be volunteered when you wear a large yellow sponge bob shirt.  And I can't remember what else we did to in our delay so we could see the second showing of the Despicable Me dance party, but we delayed for 2 hours and finally yes finally got our pics with the characters from Despicable me...YEAH!

After the dance show, we finally made our way to the train station where we slipped into gate 9 and 3/4 and made our way to Hogwarts in the other park.  So far our plan and lunch had been delayed, but we were still planning to try and get in the Hagrid line and ride the most sought after roller coaster in Universal.  First we stopped at the Three Broomsticks and ordered the Great Feast which was an amazing meal of chicken, ribs, potatoes, corn, and carrots for an amazing price.  And so much better than that monster cafe mess.

After our meal, we decided to just jump in line for Hagrids which was currently posted at 90 minutes...and while it was a long line, the line was somewhat continuously moving (and this line was also one of my favorites holding little Ru, who loved playing with her new wand and doing a magic spell to make it where I couldn't talk...Magan caught one picture below) and we arrived at the child swap in about 55 minutes...so we were almost on...and I wanted Magan to experience the ride first, so I took Ruby and we sat to watch a Harry Potter movie in the waiting area...and we waited and then I heard the announcement of delays, then I realized ...Oh NO...Magan is having to just stand there waiting on a bad foot...so I finally found her in the line and traded places with her, where I sat with the kids for another 20 minutes.  After 90 minutes, we decided it was just not our day for this ride...and we left sad, but happy to find the other ride lines of Hippogrif and the Hogwarts Castle ride as 5 minute waits...Excited we finished two rides, and still had one hour to visit in the park...when we realized that the park was now closed.  I had not read that on this night only, Islands closed at 6PM.  But on hindsight we were all so happy that we left the Hagrid ride in time to hit two more fun rides before going home.

A fun day...we tried the Gilly Water today...we tried the chocolate WizBangs (I don't know...they had the pop rocks in them)...and we tried a chocolate frog today.  Sam realized that ET stood for Extra Terrestrial today.  We enjoyed a lard Lads donut...Belle got the unicorn back pack because it was "So fluffy.  Did I say we tried hot butter beer (Deelicious).
